Back On The Road Again Soon.
Finally got the all-clear to have another crack at the Great Central Road to Alice Springs.
It has been closed for months due to the unprecedented flooding across the centre of Australia earlier this year. If you follow my posts, you will know that plans to attempt to make the trip back in 2019 were at the start of all our goldfield capers.
So later this year we have another tour booked with Greg and Liz to do some more prospecting and then hopefully on to Uluru and Alice Springs via the Gibson and the Great Sandy deserts.
Watch this space!

Ten months in, what do I think of our Mobi Nomad?
It’s fair to say that we both love it, but it has not been without its issues. Within a few weeks it was back to the factory having new fridge fitted. It was not that it didn’t work, it just worked a little too well and everything ended up frozen. To be fair to Claude, he was happy to instal a new one without a fuss. At the same time the water heater was not working but it was as simple as a blockage in the tap, easily solved.
After our first trip, we quickly discovered that the capacity of the water tanks where not as advertised and not by just a little. Claude assured me that this was not known to him at the point of sale and again he has been very obliging when it comes to sorting out the problem. Mobi is back at the factory as I write this having the tank issue resolved.
There has been an issue with the folding sink that trapped a water pipe which split. Fortunately, we were at a camp site when this happened so the loss of water was not a major problem, and I managed a quick “bush repair” as we had a Bunnings close by, another issue being looked at while back at the factory.
On our last trip one of the fans stopped working for few weeks but seems to have sorted itself out. More worrying is the small crack that has appeared in the kitchen door, again Claude has assured me that he will deal with it.
One piece of advice I would give anyone who upgrades to a Queen size bed is to have the little bed “shelves” installed, to support the mattress on the sides and at the bottom.
Oh, and the Microwave went bang on its first use, but that is being replaced as well.
So overall, what do I think? It is a great little unit, it is easy to tow, very comfortable and we can’t wait to get out in her much more in the future. The finish could be a little better but as this is our first caravan, we do not have anything to compare it with. We were unhappy with the noise the water pump made but it appears nearly all RV pumps make a similar if not louder noise, so its really about expectations.
I would give the unit 4 stars, only because I feel some of the fittings could be of a higher quality but otherwise its fantastic. Claude, so far, I would give his service 5 stars. I only hope that as his business expands, he can maintain the quality of the company’s relationships with its customer and the level of services and care that he currently provides.
Would I recommend a Mobi? Absolutely.

Mega Test Track
A Mobi gets to show that it can mix it with the big boys, when it gets “Tough Tested” on TV.

Jackaranda Hill Farm
Our next adventure was with two of our grandchildren, just an hour south of Perth, near Fairbridge, at Jacaranda Hill Farm.

Picked her up this afternoon
Finally got our tow vehicle back from the garage, with a shiny new engine under the bonnet. A big thankyou to Matthew (our mechanic) for pulling out all the stops, so that we could be ready for our next adventure.

Maiden Voyage
Our first “little taster” was a two night stay down in Yallingup. It gave us the opportunity to find out how everything works and what essentials to pack in future and what we might consider leaving behind.
It was a beautiful spot, and we cannot wait to get out in her again.

At Last!
The wait is finally over, our new Mobi Nomad is sitting outside, and preparations are about to start for our inaugural trip in February. I still have lots to learn, especially with regards to reversing the thing onto our drive. Just as I was falling into a deep depression thinking that Mobi would spend the night parked in the street, when our truck driving neighbour came home and within minutes guided me back to the perfect spot on our front lawn. I just must make sure he is at home every time we return from a trip.

That should do it!

4000kg Misterhitches tow hitch Last weekend, I installed an Anderson plug to the Patrol’s auxillary battery. Messing about underneath cars has never been my idea of fun, but with the suspension lifted so high, there is quite a lot of space under there, so I couldn’t really justify spending the money on an Auto Electrician for such a simple job.
This weekend, thanks to help from some chaps on the Mates of Mobi Nomad Australia Facebook forum, I have also installed a 4000kg tow hitch. It’s a bit overkill for a 2000kg caravan but we might be glad of it when we are off-road.
When you get really remote, it has been reported that a few of the locals sometimes find it amusing to “borrow” tow hitches so I have also added a tow hitch lock.

I took a little detour this morning….
I took a little detour this morning to the Mobi factory. To my pleasant surprise, work had just begun on the final fit out of our little Mobi Nomad. I didn’t take a good look, but I could see that the heater was partly installed, and the fans were unpacked, ready to be fitted. There is still quite a bit to do, but Claude reckons that it will be ready to pick up, towards the end of next week, hooray!
