It was a loooong way!
Next time we will take the Mobi and take four months and not the four days that we did it in this time. Intersting trip but it was a long long way.
Interesting to see how relaxed Queenslanders were with regards to masks etc. While WA are still very cautious.

I have a little road trip coming up.
We are very excited. David and Bec, are moving from Queensland to Perth and they are bringing our grandchildren, Sophie, and Alex with them. It’s a big move for them and we are thrilled. But first, we have to get them here. It has proved impossible for us to visit Queensland due the WA’s border restrictions despite our best efforts, however, for now, the borders are open and now is our chance.

The plan is for us to fly over and while Debbie helps Bec with the children and with the final farewells and formalities, Dave and I will drive their two fully laden vehicles the 4600 klms back to Perth. The girls and the kids will then fly back and meet us at home.
It’s a BIG drive, which we expect to take us at least six days. If you don’t live in Australia, you are likley to have little concept of distances. Lands End to John O’Groats is a long trip but you could do it in a day, this is a week’s travel and you are still in the same country.
We all just have to stay Covid free until then!

No Trips This Christmas
We had booked to spend Christmas and New Year with the family in Queensland but when new Covid restrictions put a stop on that idea once again, we thought perhaps another little road trip would be in order. Unfortunately, the weather put paid to that idea as well. So, it was a week at Wayne’s Bar by the pool, can’t really complain.
Time to have a little look back at 2021.

I am now allowed to drive through puddles.
It is now official, the next time we come up to a puddle, Debbie has no reason to stop me driving through it. Furthermore, if I need to bump up a kerb, I am to be allowed to do it!

Some improvements to the Patrol
In preparation for our next trip into the Goldfields the Patrol has been equipped with a set of Titan Draws and a Redarc BCDC dual battery system.

New kitchen draws for Debbie.
In an attempt to keep the fridge working! Designed, built and tested in Australia for our unique conditions, the BCDC in-vehicle DC to DC charger won’t let you down.
I have also been playing around with hoses, taps and all sorts of garden retic gadgets to provide the camp with gravity fed running water. Youtube has some good and some not so go ideas. It will be interesting so see how it works in the field.

Stirling Ranges Feb 21
Debbie has spent too long couped up in doors recuperating, it was time to hit the open road again. Labour Day long weekend was the perfect opportunity and this time we headed south. We had recently watched the movie Rams which, having lived in rural Devon in the UK for the tail end and the aftermath of Foot And Mouth, was very poignant. Quite by chance, not design we spent the weekend in and around Mount Barker where the film was shot.
Proof that the sun does not always shine, a rare cloudy day in WA.

We took the 4×4 for a road trip over Christmas.
A little round trip of approx. 2500 klms. in just over a week. The Patrol proved to be a comfortable ride but a bit more thirsty on the fuel than we had been used to. The Shothole Canyon confirmed its 4×4 credentials and even when I deliberately got bogged in soft sand managed to free itself with ease.
